Deep Vein Thrombosis and You
DVT Prevention using Aerowalkers as a healthy lifestyle choice
In the last two decades attitudes to physical fitness have changed from the early days of international “Health & Beauty” movements, to one where athletic performance standards are a goal of the fitness enthusiast.
A life style that includes a weekly work out at the gym or with a personal trainer is within the grasp of both young professional, and many senior citizens trying to manage fitness, stress, and general health.
Our population is ageing and this fitness mindset is also moving quickly up the age range as average mortality rates increases.
The number of people over 65 is currently 9 million and is projected to increase 12.5 million by 2020 as the baby boomers reach retirement age. The number over 75 is projected to increase at a faster rate from today’s 4.5 million to 9 million by 2050.
Today the number of people of pensionable age exceeds the number of children under 16. This age shift has a number of social implications.
The single overriding factor affecting the quality of life for these age groups is the ability to walk easily. It affects care needs, home, and social life.
Aerowalkers- a new product on the market helps exercise your extensor muscles and the arch vein pump within your instep. Regularly exercising the arch vein has a tremendous long-term impact for those health conscious people that wish to maintain an active life-style well into their retirement years.
The gentle pumping action helps to maintain muscle tone of your legs and feet.
Common to all fitness regimes is heightened muscular activity leading to muscle tension. Aerowalkers have a pronounced relaxing action on the feet and legs, which includes tension arising from prolonged standing.
In addition to the relaxation stimulated by Aerowalkers they are also designed to increase blood flow by compressing a vein; the “foot pump vein” in the arch of the foot. This vein prevents the pooling of de-oxygenated blood in the feet. The arch air chamber rhythmically applies pressure to the foot pump vein as the rocking action of the feet exercise the ankle, calf and thigh muscles.
The effect of reduced blood flow is most pronounced on long haul flights, the result of lower cabin air pressure and prolonged sitting. The most common symptom of this is the swelling of ankles and lower legs by a build up of lymphatic fluids. In addition, the pooling of de-oxygenated blood may lead to the development of deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
Analogously there is a similar phenomenon in the development of oedematous or swelling of the legs and feet in elderly sedentary people, the cause of which has been described as a “tired heart” leading to a lower blood flow between the heart and lower legs. This pooling leads to seepage of fluids into the surrounding tissue.
Finally, there is one last complaint, the dreaded G word. Gout. Aerowalkers offer comfort by helping to disperse the settlement of uric acid in the joints of the feet.
Better mobility is the result of improved circulation. Improving mobility is the key ingredient to helping people achieve a greater quality of life.
Aerowalkers is a product that can help improve general circulation. It is a simple and gentle self-prescribed therapy.
